BreakAuditor California meal & rest break audits

The product

Every finding traceable to a source row

BreakAuditor reads a client’s timecard export, applies California meal and rest period rules to every shift, and returns a branded report you can put in front of a client and defend — with detected issues kept separate from record gaps.

01 Start from any export

No integrations required. Start from a CSV.

Provider formats are auto-detected and normalized, so you work from the exports your clients already have. Mappings are saved per client for fast repeat audits.

02 The California rule engine

What the audit checks on every shift

Meal and rest period rules run against each shift in the export. Each finding carries a code and traces back to the row it came from.

  • F-01Missing first meal periods on shifts over 5 hours
  • F-02First meal periods starting after the end of the fifth hour
  • F-03Meal periods under 30 minutes
  • F-04Missing or late second meal periods on shifts over 10 hours
  • F-05Rest breaks attested as missed
  • RG-01Shifts with no usable rest-break records, reported as record gaps — not inflated into violations
  • F-06Meal and rest premiums that appear unpaid, or paid at base rate instead of the regular rate
  • ESTEstimated unpaid premium exposure as a range — never false precision

03 Defensible by design

Built so the numbers hold up

A break audit is only useful if it survives scrutiny. BreakAuditor is conservative on purpose: it separates what the data proves from what it cannot, and it states its assumptions.

  • SEPDetected violations are kept separate from record gaps — shifts with no usable rest record are reported as gaps to investigate, not automatic violations.
  • RATEPremiums are valued at the regular rate of compensation where the export provides it — consistent with Ferra v. Loews — and the base rate otherwise.
  • CREDPremiums already paid in payroll are credited, so exposure is not double-counted.
  • RANGEExposure is shown as a range, with the low end limited to detected and attested findings and the high end covering record-gap scenarios.

04 The deliverable

A branded report and a payroll correction list

Every audit produces two artifacts: a branded PDF report your client can read, and a payroll correction CSV their processor can act on. Each line in the correction list points back to the source row it came from.

05 Built to resell

A service you run under your own firm

The audit is built to be sold as your own. Your brand on the cover, fast repeat runs, and a path from one-time audit to recurring monitoring.

  • WLReports carry your firm name and brand color on the cover and throughout — your clients see your firm, not ours.
  • MAPField mappings are saved per client, so the second and later audits for the same employer take minutes.
  • CSVThe payroll correction export hands your client’s processor an actionable list, not just a narrative.
  • MONMonthly before-payroll-close monitoring turns a one-time audit into a recurring retainer.
